Six out of the seven species of marine turtles are critically endangered at a global level. Emirates Wildlife Society in Association with WWF (EWS-WWF) has launched a programme to conserve these incredible creatures in the Gulf.

You can help!

Marine turtles have existed for approximately 200 million years, making them older than the dinosaurs! Turtles have managed to adapt and survive through the years, but now their numbers are declining rapidly.

Marine turtles in the Middle East are especially at risk because of habitat loss and accidental capture in fishing nets. Turtles are highly migratory animals - frequently swimming long journeys. Because of technology like satellite tracking, we are now able to track their movements and identify their locations, including nesting grounds and
feeding habitat. This will help scientists and researchers identify areas in need of regional protection.
